We are delivering some of the world’s largest, most complex, and most exciting hydropower and pumped storage projects—supporting the global shift towards sustainable energy. As our success continues, we are growing and looking to connect with a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic and expanding team.
This role offers the opportunity to work on landmark projects such as Coire Glas in Scotland, Koysha in Ethiopia, and Dinorwig in Wales, alongside contributing to our growing Transmission & Distribution portfolio. Based anywhere in the UK, you will be part of a forward-thinking consultancy with a strong reputation for innovation, technical excellence, and delivering meaningful outcomes for clients.
About the Role
As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will play a leading role across all stages of hydropower and energy projects—from feasibility and concept design through to construction and commissioning.
You will take responsibility for the electrical design and development of key systems, including generators, control and instrumentation systems, protection schemes, substations, and transmission infrastructure. Your role will involve analysing and modelling electrical systems to ensure technical feasibility, performance, and compliance with industry standards.
In addition to project delivery, you will provide leadership within the team—supporting business growth, contributing to strategy, and taking ownership of key deliverables. You will also work closely with multidisciplinary teams, collaborating across civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines to ensure fully integrated design solutions.
There will also be opportunities to engage with major grid upgrade projects, working alongside our Transmission & Distribution teams on substations and transmission networks, further broadening your impact across the energy sector.
Your Impact
In this role, you will be at the forefront of delivering innovative electrical engineering solutions for large-scale hydropower and energy infrastructure projects. Your work will directly support the generation and transmission of renewable energy, contributing to more sustainable and resilient energy systems globally.
Through your technical leadership, you will help ensure that complex electrical systems are designed, analysed, and delivered to the highest standards, supporting successful project outcomes from concept through to commissioning. Your ability to integrate solutions across disciplines will be key to delivering efficient, coordinated designs that meet both client and regulatory requirements.
You will also play an important role in developing others—providing mentorship and guidance to junior engineers while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment. By contributing to innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement, you will help strengthen capability within the team and drive the success of future projects.
Ultimately, your work will have a lasting impact, helping to deliver critical energy infrastructure that supports the global transition to cleaner, renewable power.
